Minnie Driver Chat Transcript
Movie: Princess Mononoke

10/17/1999

TNT ROUGHCUT DAVID POLAND: Hi. I'm David Poland from www.roughcut.com and I'd like to welcome Minnie Driver to Yahoo! Chat.

manolis_varnassinger asks: What is the new movie all about and how did you decide to give your voice in an animation movie?

Minnie: I went and saw the film and I only meant to stay for 30 minutes. I just wanted a flavor, but I couldn't leave. It was too compelling, more than any film I'd seen for a very long time.

Invu4urqt asks: Dear Minnie, I'm a huge fan. You're my favorite actress... So, here is my question... What's it like working with Casey Affleck? Are you ticklish? And what does it feel like seeing your voice coming out of a cartoon?

Minnie: Casey is just one of the funniest, driest, most brilliant guys I've worked with. His performance was completely spontaneous. He's great. Yes, I'm ticklish, and I kick if tickled. And it was pretty weird having my voice come out of an animated character. I like to think I'd have been a writer or a teacher or maybe a musician. Those are my interests

ninapanama asks: You have such an exotic beauty, like my sister. What type of beauty routine do you go through?

Minnie: It's quite basic. I never go to bed without taking the makeup off... I moisturize.

short65_b asks: Out of the movies you have done, which one is your favorite?

Minnie: Wow... I think Grosse Pointe Blank and the one I'm shooting right now called Beautiful. Sally Field is directing and Joey Lauren Adams is in it with me with a bunch of ex-beauty queens. It's a feature.

BOWLER682 asks: Do you have any pets?

Minnie: Yeah. I've got a 10-month-old black lab called Bubba.

ninapanama asks: In Circle of Friends you gained weight for the role. Would you do it again?

Minnie: Maybe, if it was really good and they paid enough money.

eva_unlt_01 asks: How do you think Americans will react to a animated movie that isn't for kids, especially when it's being released by Disney?

Minnie: It's Disney by proxy. Miramax gives it a different flavor. Those Americans who love a really good story will see that it does fall into the kids category.

short65_b asks: Does being an actress ever get boring?

Minnie: Yeah. It does now and again. There can be a lot of hanging around where you feel like you're wasting your time. When I get bored, it's usually because there's something you're not doing. And promoting films can sometimes be boring.

manolis_varnassinger asks: Would you play in another Bond movie?

Minnie: Isn't there a curse on Bond girls? Maybe it's been lifted. I don't think it's the kind of thing you can repeat.

sushi_49 asks: What's it like to be famous?

Minnie: Oh, it's like living in a goldfish bowl sometimes. Other times it doesn't exist. You're just a regular person, but people look at you oddly sometimes. Most people just think I look like Minnie Driver. They're convinced.

ninapanama asks: Are you still a young girl at heart and still watch cartoons?

Minnie: I watch "The Simpsons" with absolute religiousness. I like "Tom & Jerry."

Invu4urqt asks: Will you be my best friend?

Minnie: How much money have you got on you? (kidding)

Invu4urqt asks: Dear Minnie, it's me again. I just wanted to say you're my role model and watching you act makes me happy. You just capture an audience. May you always be blessed with happiness. Love, Sara

Minnie: What a lovely think to say. That's so incredibly nice.

dinopot asks: How do I download the Minnie Driver? Will it work on Windows '95?

Minnie: (laughs) That's funny. I don't know how compatible I am with anything.

manolis_varnassinger asks: Are you dating Josh Brolin and how did you meet?

Minnie: Yes I am and we met at a barbecue.

BOWLER682 asks: Do you like films that come out in theaters or the director's cut that come out on video later?

Minnie: I like seeing the director's cut and to see how much different it is from what everyone sees. I haven't been to too many where there is a big difference. I think the director's cut of Blade Runner is infinitely superior to what they put out.

snip116 asks: Will you be coming to Canada anytime soon?

Minnie: No. I was just there for the Toronto Film Festival. No time soon, I don't think.

cynthia_stars asks: The story seems to have only destruction, yes?

Minnie: Not in the slightest. It's about... my character destroys a lot, but she creates a lot of good, also. Out of the destruction comes what is ostensibly real harmony. It doesn't say destruction is good, but that good can come from it. Maybe destruction is needed to engender change.

glendon_raines asks: Minnie, have you seen the original Mononoke, and if so, what were your impressions of it compared to the one you voiced?

Minnie: It's the same film. I don't speak Japanese, so I can't know how accurate the translation is. But it sounds pretty good.

manolis_varnassinger asks: Minnie, what did you like most in your film Circle of Friends?

Minnie: The director... Pat O'Connor. He's a good man... knows how to realize a script in a funny, touching way.

manolis_varnassinger asks: Did you feel the quake, David?

Minnie: I sure did. I thought it was a poltergeist to begin with.

Hitman999999 asks: Minnie, I think you're the most beautiful actress in he world! What has been your biggest accomplishment in your lifetime?

Minnie: Raising my dog, coming to America and creating a new career. Starting my business -- a production company.

David: Let's take one last question for Minnie.

Nicole_16_ca asks: Is being a movie star a good thing or a bad thing?

Minnie: I think it's ultimately a good thing with bad undertones. Like anything, it has its drawbacks, but it's an amazing job to have.

DAVID: And with that, Minnie was dragged away. Sorry folks... that's the whole chat today, but I hope that a bunch of you were happy with the Q&A. That was Minnie Driver from Princess Mononoke coming on October 29 to a theater near you. Thanks for coming and goodnight from TNT roughcut.com and Yahoo! Chat.
